Gardening produces beautiful plants and flowers, but wreaks havoc with your skin. While dry skin lotion can help, these few tips offer more protection.

   -  Wear gardening gloves made from untreated, organic cotton. They don't contain chemicals that dry the skin.

   -  Really healthy plants tends to resist pests and disease, so keep the soil healthy and make sure the plants are getting organic fertilizer as needed.

   -  If you do have a weed or pest problem, try to use organic weed and pest control products as much as possible.

   -  Washing your hands afterwards can also really take its toll on the skin: Ground in dirt and grunge is hard to remove. For easier and faster clean-up, apply a good, natural shielding lotion prior to gardening. The shielding lotion helps prevent the grunge from penetrating the skin.

Shielding lotion is also a great dry skin lotion. Traditional dry skin lotions often contain chemicals that dry the skin. They leave a slick surface, so it feels like your skin is in good condition but, really, you're feeling the lotion, not your skin.

A good shielding lotion, on the other hand, locks in natural moisture, keeps out chemicals and promotes the smooth, hydrated and healthy skin you're looking for. Give it a try!
