Eczema sufferers are often at their wit’s end trying to find relief. They go through one skin care product after another with some working a short time and nothing seems to work for long. Some people give up and eventually resort to topical anesthetics that simply numb the pain. But the new FDA warnings about the potentially serious and life-threatening dangers of topical anesthetics has eczema sufferers back on the prowl for a skin care product that will give them the relief they need, while being safe. What are their options?

Most have tried at least 25 different types of moisturizers. You’d think they’d work: after all, eczema is basically extremely dry skin. But traditional moisturizers are usually a big disappointment.

Why? Because most of them actually cause dry skin. They coat the skin with a slippery, greasy substance that feels soft and smooth once it’s absorbed and gives the illusion that the skin condition has changed. But under the surface, the condition is still as bad as it was. In fact, it is probably getting worse. The moisturizer’s drying, often toxic, ingredients exacerbate the problem.

Many eczema sufferers also use over-the-counter or prescribed medications. A number of these skin care products contain ingredients that cause skin problems - some are even suspected in skin cancer. They usually contain topical anesthetics, which I’m sure people will be hesitant to use in light of the new FDA warnings.

Doesn’t sound too good, does it?

What other solutions are available? You might consider trying a shielding lotion – a real breakthrough in skin care technology now recommended by thousands of doctors to treat eczema. A good shielding lotion bonds with the outer layer of the skin to form a new protective layer that locks in natural moisture and keeps out chemicals. The protection you get from shielding lotion actually allows the skin to heal itself, naturally.

Non-drug skin care solutions are always preferable. As we can see from the FDA warnings, even drugs that have been around for decades can turn out to be dangerous.

If you’re looking for an alternative to topical anesthetics, a good shielding lotion might be just the skin care product the doctor ordered.
