Expensive Skin Care Products on the Cut Back List

In the current economic climate many retail sectors are reporting lower sales figures as consumers cut back on spending. According to Bloomber.com consumer spending, the biggest part of the economy, will drop at a 0.9 percent annual pace this quarter. When consumers aren't feeling good about their finances, they look for other ways to feel good. Looking good becomes important, but savvy shoppers want skin care products that get results and don’t strain the budget.

Skin care products can cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars to less than $20. Recent research into how skin ages, dries out and loses elasticity - and how it heals - has led to the development of a new type of skin care treatment called a shielding lotion.

Dermatologists say a shielding lotion works because it forms an invisible shield around and throughout the skin. This shield allows the moisture in the skin to be maintained within the body so that the skin can heal itself. It also prevents harmful products from affecting the skin, such as cleansers, acids, and everyday solvents we come into contact with.

Skin care and skin treatment is important,” says Dr. Lisa Benest, a board certified dermatologist in Burbank CA. “In dermatology studies we use a measurement called trans-epidermal water loss, which measures how much water is evaporating from the skin over a certain period of time. Most moisturizers on the market actually increase the trans-epidermal water loss. This means is that more water is evaporating from the skin, causing a loss of moisture. A shielding lotion not only reduces the amount of trans-epidermal water loss, but over time increases the skin's ability to moisturize itself.”

Barbara Gerstein of New York first tried a few samples of shielding lotion and after a year of regular use she wrote: “My hands, arms and face are baby soft. Young people want to know how come I look so young.....instead of 66 they all think I am 50!” And with a price tag that fits into even the tightest budget, compliments like that are sure to lift any consumer’s spirits.
